Exvo is a young informal startup running several projects. We have three promising products and ideas: The first is the Exvo.com Cloud Operating System. The idea behind it is that local based operating systems are becoming slowly obsolete. We don't aim to provide solutions for common problems, Google for one does that just fine. We want to provide a platform that removes the limitations of local resources and gives you the full experience where ever you are. This is still in a conceptual phase, but we're getting to a point that this becomes a reality and gives us many interesting new opportunities. Also, we have over 250k users. The second is Teamz. As a starting entrepreneur one of the hardest parts is finding the right people for the right job. The entrepreneur should be focused on running his business, not endless solicitations and turn offs. Our concept is that you define your tasks, put them into a pool, and via an innovative matchmaking system together with a rating algorithm a match is made. The tasks get executed by the matchee from the pool and on acceptance, the deal will be closed. We will be providing a full solution here. The 'worker' side is already live for them to enjoy, however, the company side is still under heavy development. The final application is Tolq, a (website) translation platform. It's based on the same principle as the first that some things just should be easy, like translating your site. After you change your DNS settings and request a machinal, crowd or 1-on-1 translation and the languages you want, the application crawls your website, distributes the documents over the pool of the second application and reassembles it when it's done. This application is currently working on production. You can find an introductory video to Tolq here: http://vimeo.com/35308659 To support these very ambitious plans, we need several additional experienced (Rails) developers. You can work from anywhere, just as long as you love what you do and enjoy making beautiful code. However, locals in Netherlands are strongly preferred. You will join a team made up of people around the world, who will challenge you to be the best you can be and most of all, have a lot of fun in the process. We currently have three teams of varying sizes. We're looking for junior, medior and senior developers! We'd like you to have: * A willingness to learn * Good communication skills * A passion for Ruby, a love for Rails * Proficiency in javascript, coffeescript and jQuery * Experience with behaviour and test driven development * Experience with agile software development * And generally good development skills. And we'd love it if you: * Have read and understood the pragmatic programmer * Have experience with Amazon AWS and/or Heroku * Know other languages besides Ruby and Javascript * Know a thing or two about UX * Know a thing or two about distributed architectures * Know a thing or two about algorithms * Are an agile evangelist * Have contributed to open source projects * A presence in the Ruby community

Local startup focused on encouraging civic engagement is seeking an experienced Ruby on Rails developer to come on board on the ground level to help us finish Version 1.0 of our first app, and lay the foundation for growth. Applicants should have experience with Ruby on Rails and mysql and not be scared of things like Facebook and Twitter Authentication. 95% of the beta is complete and we have clients waiting. I won't blow smoke about this being the next great thing that will change the world, but it is a solid app with a large market, and a lot of interested parties that see the potential. I also understand that promises of great pay later in exchange for free labor now, tends to send developers running away. I'm open to exploring ways to combine equity and pay to make this work, let's have a discussion. We're interested in finding a long-term partner, not outsourcing to India. Please send an email with links to other projects you've worked on, your general location, and hourly rate. From there we'll schedule a meeting where more details will be given and we can determine numbers. No agencies, please.

We're a small game design project team looking for someone who is proficient in Ruby, and wants to be a part of a "spare time" game design project. More specifically, we need someone who can help us implement the battle system for the game, by modifying/writing code already in the engine. We are using RPG Maker XP for this project, so that engine is the one you would be changing. We have tech specs ready, describing what we're looking for, and we are readily available to field any questions/suggestions. We are following a pretty flexible schedule with monthly progress markers, and we can discuss the amount of work you want to take on/how much time you want to devote. You must be a good communicator who is willing to keep everyone updated on your progress as well. We are all currently doing this project without pay, but if you can get the work done right, we may be able to compensate you for your time. Talk to us! We're happy to answer any questions/clarify any info.
Our small 35-year-old educational film company in Chicago is in dire need of a new website. We'd like to use Rails. We need a developer. We do not want not a tweaked CMS--we need custom code that will run on our servers and serve as a foundation for other efforts. The two big goals are to move to a new tech platform that we can grow on, while modernizing the look-and-feel. The project has three major components: product catalog, ordering / customer service, and general information - all of which exist in our current environment. The plan is to build a system that uses our existing REST-based application server as a backend - this project does not need to worry about admin interfaces or database access. This relatively simple website / catalog project will serve as a good getting-to-know-you project, as we have other projects in the pipeline, including media / video / interactive work and distributed application infrastructure work, which will use Rails as part of a stack of new + interesting tech.

We offer an unprecedented opportunity to make daily impacts in support of our aggressive strategic growth plans as well as experience professional and personal growth as an integral part of a high-tempo, truly unique corporate culture. We are actively building several green-field projects and growing existing products to meet the expanding marketplace. Much of this is geolocation and mapping based, so we are heavily into new and unique data visualization technologies. We are not a startup; we have been in business for 10 years, profitable and proud. What we're looking for: Truly talented developers with a passion for creating clean, quality software, from unit tests to UI's. We're looking for a variety of engineers to expand our team: any mix of Ruby/Rails and iOS or Android will do. What you'll be working on: Solving interesting real-world problems around deep data, geography, and the UI to visualize it all in both web and mobile platforms. Technology in use: ? Ruby ? Rails ? Javascript / Coffeescript / jQuery ? HAML / SASS ? Backbone.js ? MongoDB ? Heroku / Amazon EC2/S3 ? Github The right person for the job will have: ? Familiarity with document-oriented database concepts Our culture: We are an engineering-centric company, with a very flat management structure, so you're not going to have 5 bosses telling you what to do. We don't take ourselves too seriously, and we're not afraid to learn and take risks. We also play some serious ping-pong on the regulation size table in the back, where all the video games and Nerf dart guns are kept.
